What to Know
In 2023, Spanish television actress Ana Obregon made headlines when she used her dead son’s sperm to make his baby. Her son, who died from an aggressive form of cancer, dreamed of having a child, and froze his sperm before beginning chemotherapy. Biologically, Obregon is the girl’s grandmother — she traveled to the United States to use an egg donor and a surrogate because they are illegal in her home country. However, she adopted the girl, who she calls Anita, and is raising her. And even though she sees nothing wrong with the arrangement, a lot of people have big feelings about it.
She shared a beautiful tribute for her granddaughter’s birthday.
On March 20, 2026, Obregon shared a series of pictures of Anita to commemorate the little girl’s third birthday.
“Happy birthday my life 💕,” she wrote. “Today marks three years since I was reborn when I hugged you for the first time. “You have filled my dark world and my personal hell with light, smiles, mischief, hugs, diapers, pacifiers and toys all over the house. You are good, smart, sensitive and you have the same sense of humour as your father.”
In the post, she vowed to tell the girl about how she came to be. “I will tell you about your dad’s courage and the life lesson he taught us all. I will tell you how much he dreamed of hugging you, taking care of you and loving you, even though now he does it from heaven,” she wrote.
“Always together the three of us.”
Ana Obregon takes every opportunity to honor her son’s memory.
On May 3, she shared a post on Instagram to celebrate Mother’s Day in Spain.
“Mother’s Day Hurt. My heart goes out to all the moms who have their angels in heaven. Those who swallow tears with a smile to survive,” she began the caption.
“I need to tell you that love is the greatest force that exists, that we try to feel its love from wherever you are. Need to tell y’all we’re going to be her mommies forever. Happy Mother’s Day to the moms who are lucky enough to have their children on earth, who can hug them, talk to them, smell them.”
“Don’t waste a single day without telling them how much you love them,” she reminded. “Collect endless moments with them, because that’s the only thing that is truly worthwhile in this life.”
“I am now a mom-grandmother of an angel who lights up my darkness every second.”
People in the comments aren’t particularly kind.

And they’re not afraid to share their feelings about Ana Obregon and her family where she can see them.
“Could y’all ever make a post without naming your child!!!. What penance for that girl the constant comparison of her and her father,” one person wrote.
Another person wrote, “selfishness is the word, condemns a girl to be the spare of a deceased because she does not want to pass the mourning.”
On a different post, someone commented, “She deserves to live her own life, not the repetition of everything Alex did.”
“It’s like a horror movie, constantly living with the ghost of your father that you haven’t even met in your head,” another commenter claimed.
