Resurfaced Clip of Meghan Curtseying to Applause Not Meant for Her Is Brutally Awkward

Even though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their roles as working members of the British Royal Family, they’ve remained in the public eye non-stop. Part of that is thanks to Meghan’s penchant for wanting to be the center of attention, it seems. So when an old clip of the couple resurfaced on X where they enter an event to an applause and standing ovation that is definitely not for them, it showed just how much Meghan beams when all eyes are on her.

But in this case, the clip shows some eyes on her and other eyes elsewhere as people wonder why Meghan and Harry think the attention is all about them. Sure, the clip is from a time when Harry and Meghan were still active members of the Firm, but there’s no reason why they should think the applause is for them. And, as the video continues because it goes on for a painfully long time (or at least what feels like painfully long), only Harry seems to realize what’s going on.

The standing ovation was definitely not for Harry and Meghan.

The user who posted the clip on X wrote, “Remember when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived late at the Mountbatten Festival of Music 2020 at the Royal Albert Hall and treated the applause like it was for their grand entrance? The audience was already giving a standing ovation to the Royal Marines Band Service & Harry giving that little wave, both of them nodding and Meghan grinning as if they were acknowledging their own applause…when it had absolutely nothing to do with them.”

Yeah, it’s that bad. And the clip from the event is less than a minute long. But it’s still far too long to not be incredibly uncomfortable for everyone. Except, of course, for Meghan.

The user added in their post, “It just screamed misplaced self-importance and turned into one of those classic secondhand embarrassment moments.”

You can see Meghan and Harry enter a balcony and go to their seats as audience members are already clapping and standing. Instead of joining in on the applause, Meghan does a curtsy a couple of times and looks like she is silently thanking everyone. Unfortunately, they are not clapping for her or Harry.

Prince Harry gets more and more uncomfortable the longer the applause goes on.

The clip is like a Renaissance painting. Each person in the video has a story of sorts, like a couple in the back who seem to understand that Meghan and Harry, or at least Meghan, thinks the applause and standing ovation are for them. Then there is someone who basically side-eyes the royal couple. And, eventually Harry looks super uncomfortable, but the damage has already been done by then.

“Everyone on that balcony clocked it, so embarrassing,” one person commented on the X post.

Someone else replied to them with, “A little self awareness would have saved them. But no, they happily basked in applause that wasn’t even theirs.”

“If they’d actually read the room, they would’ve realised,” another person added. “But they were too busy soaking up applause that wasn’t even for them.”

Because some do feel like Harry realizes what’s happening once it’s too late, another person wrote, “Harold looks mortified after a certain point. She is beaming with excitement.”

“This is my absolute favorite and I think it will always be my absolute favorite,” a true Harry and Meghan hater replied to the post. “They thought the clapping was for them. That literally shows everything that those two are.”

Meghan Markle’s haters are everywhere, it seems.

Meghan had haters before she officially joined the British Royal Family, and she had haters when she left. As in, she left the country and the family. Or, rather, her royal duties. So when that clip was shared on X, people who remembered the event shared their thoughts on the entire ordeal. Others joked about Meghan’s so-called self-importance.

The person who originally shared the X post added in the replies, “The secondhand embarrassment is unreal. Imagine confidently soaking it in only to realise it had nothing to do with you…that moment will never stop being funny.”

Someone else agreed, “What a couple of morons believing the applause was for them. The delusion of both is off the scale.”

The clip might be from years ago, and maybe someday people will forget it exists. But as long as there are Meghan haters and there is the Internet, it will keep popping back up from time to time.
