What to Know
When my son was an infant, I spent so much time comparing him to other babies around the same age. I would get so upset if he wasn’t sleeping like other babies, or walking and talking, or growing hair at the same rate. And then over time, all of those things happened. That’s when I realized that you can’t compare your baby to any other baby. Despite knowing this, so many moms still do. Recently, Ms. Rachel shared a video of her one-year-old daughter talking, and so many moms in the comments are sharing that it’s making them feel bad. But it shouldn’t!
The video is just a snippet of what Ms. Rachel wants us to see.
@msrachelforlittles My son had a severe speech delay and he’s extremely bright and wonderful – neither one is smarter!he didn’t really talk until 3 years old. I did the same stuff with him (actually more because I didn’t have two kids.) we got him speech therapy / early intervention starting at 15 months (get help – sooner the better) this shows that kids are different and you shouldn’t feel bad! I thought everyone knew about my sweet boy struggling with speech. Love! #msrachel #firstwords #babies #12months #mama ♬ original sound – Ms Rachel
In the video, the popular children’s creator, who also has a background in speech pathology, is sitting with her daughter Susie and going over some simple words.
“Can you say hi?” she asks the little one. She goes through asking her daughter to repeat words that include “Mama,” “Dada,” “Nana,” “Papa,” “Pop,” “Yay,” and “Aww.” Susie happily repeated each word while playing with her teething toy.
She made a few important points during the video.
“I don’t say ‘say ball!’ & ask her to say things a lot when we are playing,” she wrote on the video. “I just play, have fun & say the word slowly. ‘Baall. Ball. Ya! It’s a ball.’ I do ask kids to say things on our show because it’s harder through the screen to get them to say things,” she explained.
A few commenters joked about how lucky the toddler was. “So lucky she has Ms Rachel channel without commercials,” one person wrote.
“She gets miss Rachel without tapping the play button,” someone else teased.
People exposed their fears in the comment section.

“My 13 month just grunts and slaps me in the face 😅,” one mom wrote.
“My 21-month-old only say 5 words and I feel like a complete failure. 😞,” another mom shared.
Someone else wrote “my child is 2years and don’t wanna talk.”
“My 11 month old isn’t anywhere near this….i get a ‘hi’ once in a blue moon but that’s it. Just screaming and mmmmm,” another comment reads.
Another mom asked “is my 14 month old supposed to be saying anything other than mama and Dada lol.”
Other caregivers shared how watching her videos helped their own children.

“Today my 13 month old signed ‘more’ and ‘milk’ to get me to refill her bottle. I was so proud I nearly cried. She has started signing along with you!”
“My daughter started doing her alphabets at 15 months because of you.”
“My 2 year old granddaughter speaks full sentences knows all her colors and shapes! Because of you Ms Rachel 🥰.”
Another parent added that their “14 month old says ALOT words thanks to you!! No one ever believes me when I say she’s 14 months. They always think she’s way older.”
Every child really is different, trust the expert.
After reading all the comments, Ms. Rachel felt it was important to give people a little more info about her own kids.
