Everyone has heard some baby names that are real doozies, but this mom’s baby name choice for her unborn daughter is seriously raising some eyebrows across TikTok. Kailee Zak, a 22-year-old mom-to-be from Central Texas, recently shared the name on social media with a post as…extra as the baby name itself.
“The most special name to us,” she wrote in the caption of the post. “So excited for our girl to be here.”
The name? Drumroll, please...
Lukacey.
Apparently, the name draws inspiration from several parts of Zak’s life—most obviously her signature Lucchese cowboy boots, which make a pink appearance in the video.
Though the boot brand and the baby name are spelled differently, they’re pronounced the same.
Naturally, the comments section of her video absolutely exploded.
Some of the more entertaining responses:
“Please unreveal it,” one comment reads.
“What in the Renesmee,” says another.
“Luckacily you have time to change it,” someone writes.
“A reminder we’re naming babies that will be adults,” another comment says.
“Your child is still unique even if they have a normal name. Why are we doing this?” asks another TikTok user.
Mom defends the name, saying there's meaning behind the decision.
In an interview with TODAY.com, Zak says the name Lukacey is meaningful to her for several reasons.
“I got pregnant with my son when I was 17 and still in high school,” Zak says. “Being home with a baby and not going to college, I sort of lost myself a little bit and forgot who I was as a person.”
She tells the outlet that she’s officially entered her “Western influencing era” online, sharing that her Texas roots influence her posts and style.
“I know it sounds silly, but those boots are just so meaningful to me,” Zak says.
Despite all of the backlash to her post, Zak does have a sense of humor about it. She admitted that some of the comments were “hysterical” and made her laugh.
Lukacey
It’s not surprising to hear the baby name Lukacey isn’t a popular one in the United States in either of the possible spellings, which includes Lukasey. But it’s not obscure enough to not be on any baby name meaning list.
According to Parenting Patch, Lukasey, which can be a boy or girl name, is Latin and means “bringer of light.”
While majority of people in the comment section of Zak’s social media posts don’t care for the name, it’s not the weirdest name we’ve ever heard.
