16 Celebrities Who Had Kids When They Were Young

As every parent knows, having a child changes everything โ€” no matter how old a person is when they begin that journey. Deciding when to start a family is a deeply personal choice and one that is shaped by a variety of factors, especially financial realities.

Over time, the average age for people to have their first child has been steadily increasing and is now over 26 for women and nearing 30 for men. Of course, there are always people who, due to choice or circumstance, end up being anything but average when it comes to their age when they have their first child.

And when it comes to avoiding being average, we all know that celebrities fit that bill. Celebrity pregnancies and babies are always big gossip news. We live for a first celebrity baby photo, not going to lie!

We sometimes focus on the celebrity moms who welcomed babies later in life, like Naomi Campbell, Janet Jackson, and Hoda Kotb (these gorgeous ladies were all over 50 when they had their first child). But it turns out that there are actually a surprising number of celebrities who were young parents.

From some teenage pregnancies that were shocking at the time to Kylie Jenner's secret pregnancy with Stormi, these are the celebs who were under the average age when they became parents for the first time.

Jamie Lynn Spears

Jamie Lynn Spears is no stranger to controversy. She's currently on the hot seat for whether or not she supported sister Britney, or if she was trying to profit off her family connection, but perhaps her biggest controversy happened when she announced she was pregnant at 16 years old. At the time, she was starring on a Nickelodeon show and her pregnancy was front-page news. She's now 30 and a mother of two.

Reese Witherspoon

It's always so striking to see photos of Reese Witherspoon and her daughter, Ava Phillippe. Not only do the two look practically like twins, it is a reminder that Reese has actually experienced being both a young mom (having Ava when she was just 23) and a more mature mom (having her last child, son Tennessee, when she was 37).

Sofia Vergara

Modern Family star Sofia Vergara was still a teenager and living in her native Colombia when she gave birth to her son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara. She was 19 years old and married to her childhood sweetheart at the time but the two divorced soon after, and Sofia and Manolo eventually immigrated to the United States.

LeBron James

LeBron James did everything young! Not only did he get drafted into the NBA while still a teenager, but he also started his family when he was only 19 with the birth of his son Bronny, who is now 17. He and wife Savannah were high school sweethearts who now have three kids together.

Niki Taylor

Iconic 90s supermodel Niki Taylor had a fairly wild year when she was 19. Not only did she elope to Las Vegas with a man she'd known for less than a year, she also gave birth to twins. The marriage didn't last, but Niki found love again later on (with husband Burney Lamar) and went on to have two more children, so she currently has kids ranging in age from 10 to 28.

Solange Knowles

Solange Knowles is so much more than just Beyoncรฉ's kid sister. She's a talented singer and songwriter in her own right, and many fans may not realize that she was actually married when she was 17 and became a mother at age 18. Her son, Daniel, is now a teenager himself.

David Beckham

Hot English soccer dad David Beckham shares four children (three sons and a daughter) with his wife of almost 23 years, Victoria Beckham. The couple married in 1999 and their then-4 month-old-son served as ring bearer. Son Brooklyn was born when David was 23 and Victoria was 24.

Britney Spears

Although she wasn't quite as young as her sister was when she became a mother, Britney Spears was also a younger-than-average mom. She once said of having her first child at 23, "I had my babies very young. I really am a baby mamma!!!"

Aaron Taylor-Johnson

Actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson might not be the biggest name on this list, even though he has been a part of several major Marvel movies (he played the character Quicksilver ) and has won a Golden Globe for his role in Nocturnal Animals. But what makes him an interesting addition is not only the fact that he became a dad at the age of 20 but that the mother of his child was 42 at the time! He is married to director Sam Taylor-Wood and, despite their big age difference, the couple has been together since 2009 and shares two children.

Candace Cameron Bure

We all know her as DJ from Full House, but actress Candace Cameron Bure has been filling a house of her own since she was just 22. She married Russian-born NHL player Valeri Bure in 1996 when she was just 20, and the couple has three children together, the oldest of whom is now in college. We feel super old now that we know DJ has a kid in college!

Taylor Hanson

On the subject of teenage stars who became parents early, we can also include Taylor Hanson of the pop group Hanson. Taylor, who is the middle brother of the group famous for earworm "MMMBop" was just 19 when he married and had his first child with wife Natalie. The couple is celebrating 20 years of marriage this year and now parents to a brood of seven children.

Rod Stewart

Sir Rod Stewart wasn't always a rich and famous singer. He had a humbler start in life that included getting his then-girlfriend, Susannah Boffey, pregnant when he was only 17 years old. The couple broke up before the baby was born, and Susannah ultimately put the child, named Sarah, up for adoption. Rod and his daughter eventually met once she was an adult, and the two continue to have a relationship now. Rod has a total of eight children by five women, including Sarah.

Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner has been young for almost every milestone in her life. She got famous young thanks to her family's reality TV show, she was young when she started her super successful lip kit line, and she was young when she decided to become a mom to daughter Stormi as just 20 years old. She's now 24 and the mother of two, thanks to the recent arrival of son Wolf.

Naomi Judd

Country music icon Naomi Judd was only 18 when she gave birth to her daughter (and future singing partner) Wynonna. She was 22 when she gave birth to daughter (and future actress) Ashley Judd. She raised both of them as a single mother and didn't find fame until she was in her late 30s, when The Judds signed their first record contract.

Aretha Franklin

The late, great Aretha Franklin had an incredible career, including being the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. But what casual fans might not know, partially because Aretha didn't like talking about it, was that the soulful singer had her first child when she was still a child herself. Her first son was born when she was only 12 and her second child arrived when she was just 14, which certainly must have been a traumatic experience for Aretha.

Liam Payne

There was a period of time when One Direction was the biggest boy band in the world, and it turns out that two members of the group both became fathers when they were only 23 years old. Liam Payne had son Bear with Cheryl Cole (who was 34 at the time), and bandmade Louis Tomlinson had a son, named Freddie, who is now 6.
