What to Know
When it comes to traveling by plane, there are a few things I’m certain about. One is getting an aisle seat so I can get to the bathroom easier. The other is making sure that I have as many food options as possible. Airport prices are ridiculous, and airplane food is gross. Honestly, I’m never going to be desperate enough to pay $20 for a dry turkey sandwich. One mom is going viral after getting creative about eating on a flight — she made her entire family sandwiches mid-flight. However, people are divided about whether or not they appreciate her ingenuity.
The woman was traveling with her adult children.
TikTok user Ilesha DePasquale was traveling with her mom and other family members when she captured the video.
“Mom was worried we’d get hungry on our 5 hour flight without a meal, so she brought stuff to make us sandwiches on the plane! Best mom ever!” DePasquale wrote over the video in which her mom can be seen making something way better than airplane food.
These aren’t basic sandwiches either, she has quite a setup!
The woman has her row set up like a prep station you’d see in a proper sandwich shop; the rolls are laid out across the tray tables as she spreads a condiment from a packet on the bread. Next thing we see, she has made a complete sub sandwich (or whatever you call it where you live!). The sandwiches have meat, cheese and lettuce already while she adds onion slices to finish them off.
“Thank you, mom,” DePasquale says as she accepts the thick sandwich. She cuts the camera to a man who says it’s “very good,” and another man nods in agreement.

A lot of the commenters were jealous they didn’t get such delicious airplane food.
If you’ve ever eaten a meal on a plane, you know it’s not as nice as what this mom was making. And many commenters appreciated the care she took to make sure her family wasn’t hungry while they traveled.
“Not her opening a full sandwich shop mid-flight,” the top comment reads. Someone replied, “She must be Italian, my mom wanted to make sandwiches, and bring them on the plane.”
Another commenter wrote, “I love her. I would like to give her my flying itinerary and have her make me those wonderful delicious subs or hoagies or heroes whatever they’re called.”
“There is nothing like a mom who thinks their kid is hungry!!!” one person wrote.
“You never too old for mom to take care of you thats a mother’s love.”
However, a lot of people gave reasons why they disagreed with the mom’s actions.
While some people called out the dissenters for being grouchy or unappreciative, the people who weren’t into it made equally valid points.
“Onions in a plane is diabolical,” one person wrote.
“No way!!!! Shouldn’t be allowed! The smells of onions and all that food is terribly rude to the other passengers. It’s messy and just overall obnoxious. Can people not sit for 5 hours with a light snack provided to them or for small purchase?!” another commenter added.
“With all the germs and closeness of people jammed into a tiny tube… yeah I’m not making sandwiches.”
“I think thats way too much. who wants to smell that all thru the cabin? make the sandwiches at home dry and just bring packets of mayo etc,” someone else said.
